Eyad S. Alrefai is a Ph.D. student in Politics and International Relations at Lancaster University. He is a teaching assistant and instructor at the Department of Political Science, King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia.
In his Ph.D. research, he looks at the development of the Middle Eastern regional system by exploring the historical interaction between identities (pan Arabism and pan Islamism) and states, and the struggle for hegemony in the region.
His research interests include international relations of the Middle East, state weakness and failure, state building, security, and legitimacy. Currently, he is seeking to examine public policies in the Gulf states, precisely in Saudi Arabia, and how they could relate to the broader region.
Broadly, he is interested in studying interdisciplinary subjects such as understanding the relationship between politics and sports as well as politics and arts.
