Deen Sharp CUNY PhD (2018), is a Geographer whose research focuses on the processes of urbanization in the Arab world. He has published several journal articles, book chapters, and is the co-editor of Beyond the Square: Urbanism and the Arab Uprisings (Urban Research, 2016) and Open Gaza: Architectures of Hope (Terreform and AUC Press, 2021). Deen is actively engaged in scholarly and policy discussions around the urbanization of violence and conflict. Deen is currently working on an edited volume on the spatial dynamics of the conflict in Syria with Professor Nasser Rabbat, entitled, Reconstruction as Violence: The case of Syria. This book will be published by the American University in Cairo Press in 2023. He was previously a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a LSE Fellow in Human Geography at the London School of Economics. Deen is currently based in Khartoum, Sudan.
