On this episode of SEPADPod Simon speaks with Ariel Ahram, associate professor in Virginia Tech's School of Public and International Affairs in Alexandria, Va. and a non-resident fellow at the Rice University Baker Institute for Public Policy. His first book, Proxy Warriors: The Rise and Fall of State Sponsored Militias was published by Stanford in 2011 and his next, Break all the Borders: Separatism and the Remaking of the Middle East, is due to be published by Oxford University Press in 2019. Simon and Ariel discuss this along with the nature of states, sovereignty and Iraq.
